Applied Communications
CLASSROOM GOALS:
In Applied Comunications, we will work on enhancing communication skills that will help prepare you for your senior interviews with the Hoquiam Rotary, as well as your life beyond HHS. Communication skills include reading, writing, and speaking, and we will practice all 3. We will also conduct comprehensive job search and interest surveys and will build skills that will assist you in your 13th year and beyond.
ACTIVITIES/ASSIGNMENTS:
Throughout the year, students will engage the various topics and activities listed below:
- Pro/Con Presentation - Demonstration Speech
- Current Event Presentations - Impromptu Speech
- Formal Written Essays - Non-Verbal Communication Activities
- Reading Comprehension Activites - Career Interest Survey
- Job-Preparation Block - Etc., etc., etc.,

WAYS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN APPLIED COMMUNICATIONS:
- Respect. Respect our enviroment and the ideas shared within.
- Positive, professional participation is essential.
- Ask Questions!
- Make up missed assigments promptly. Don't fall behind.
- Monitor your workstation. Report any problems at once.
- Use appropriate languae and behavior at all times.
- Follow all school policies while in the classrom.
CLASSROOM RULES TO FOLLOW:
- Profanity is frowned upon.
- Please ensure that all Cell Phones are off during classroom hours.
- Bottled water is OK, but please make sure all other food and beverages are stored away safely.
- Tardies will be issued if you are not in the classroom after the 3rd bell. Students will be marked absent if more than 5 minutes late at the start of class.
