“Carpe Diem!”

Expectations (The Grizzly Way):

  1. Attend Class – Attendance is directly related to success in school. In order to know what is going on in class, you need to be here. This also means you should be in your seat when the bell rings.

  2. Be Prepared – Students must have all materials needed for class before the bell rings. Homework (readings, writings, etc.) must also be completed on time.

  3. Be Respectful – Show respect to your classmates, your instructor and yourself.

  4. Be Positive! – It makes life worth living.

Classroom Procedures:

  1. Enter Class before the tardy bell rings and sit in your assigned seat.

  2. Remove hat/headwear. (Yes, I'm "old school", and I believe it's a gesture of respect.)

    1. EXCEPTION: If it's "Spirit Week" (or a class-designated "special day") and the headwear supports the theme.

  3. Cell/Smart Phones are to be "silenced" and "away" during class time unless Mr. Pirianian instructs/authorizes students to use them.

    1. Students are NOT to have them on their desks or their laps

    2. Habitual offenders will have their phones taken and submitted to the office for the day.

  4. During Instruction/Discussion/Independent Work Sessions: Be respectful of the class. Ask questions when necessary. DO NOT leave class to use the bathroom when instruction/class discussion is in progress. Wait until the session is finished.

  5. Prior to the end-of-class bell: Straighten rows. Never line up at the door. Leave only when the bell rings.

Course Breakdown (Approximate Worth/Weight)

Category

Participation/Citizenship aka "THE GRIZZLY WAY" (Note:) It is paramount that students develop and maintain ethics in great attendance and punctuality. If students are gone or tardy, they may/will miss important information/experiences that cannot be attained outside of class time. More often than not, poor attendance negatively affects performance as students are trying to attain standards. Students who develop poor habits of missing class/being tardy carry these traits into the workplace which, in turn, causes problems for both employer and employee. To combat this, the following “deductions” will be made:

  • For chronic absenteeism and/or habitual tardiness (more than five (5) non-school-related absences or tardies per semester) up to 10 percent may be deducted from overall grade (will be determined on a case-by-case scenario).

Looking at the Online Grades:

Using the “5-point” grade scale will now “translate” into percentages. In other words, what you see online is now more indicative of your actual grade.
